Roulette Album Discography, Part 4
by David Edwards and Mike Callahan
Last update: September 2, 2019

Roulette, over the years, tried just about anything. They started and stopped a number of series of differing musical genre, and these are included here. The labels used for these series were similar to the main labels at the time. For example, the SR-75000 Gold Classic Series of the early 1960s used a variation of the multi-color bar label, except that the bars were all gold, and "ROULETTE GOLD CLASSIC SERIES" was boldly around the label edge.

The 59000 series, released from 1981-1988, was the umpteenth and final series of repackaged Roulette material from the company. There were two series of oldies reissues included, which were just repackaging of their earlier various artists offerings, shuffled around. Besides the oldies, most of the others were reissues of old Roulette albums, but a few were new to Roulette, being reissues from other labels.

The SR-79000 series, a two release series in 1983, was apparently the last effort to release new material on Roulette.

A few years later (1985), they started releasing their best selling vinyl on compact disc. When the company was sold in 1988, the vinyl and CD issues stopped, and Rhino (the buyer) started mining the Roulette catalog for CD release. The compact discs are covered in Part 5.

Most of the albums on this page that were released between 1958 and 1962 had the white label with color bars at various angles through the center hole (far left). The exceptions were the RGC/SRGC-1 Series and the SR-75000 classical series ("The Gold Classic Series"), which had a similar white label (near left), but the bars through the center hole were all gold in color and "GOLD CLASSIC SERIES" was bending around the bottom of the label in large letters. Canadian version of this label was all gold with black print (no bars).
The RDJ-1 series all had promotional labels as shown at far left. They also came in paper sleeves instead of cardboard jackets. At near left is the label used for the 1962 WGM ("World's Greatest Music") Series.
The albums released between 1963 and 1980 had the "checkerboard" label as shown at far left. The print was black except for the white "roulette ball" used for the "O" in "ROULETTE." At near left is the label used in the 1980s; it is similar to the one at far left except it uses green print for the label name and the line under the label name.
