The Vee-Jay Story
by Mike Callahan and David Edwards
Last update: December 21, 2006

It's been over 50 years since Vee-Jay started as a label. The company has made a fortune, gone bankrupt, revived as Vee-Jay International in the 1970s, reissuing hundreds of LPs, fallen dormant in the 1980s, and sold out in the 1990s. The 1990s company, Vee-Jay Limited Partnership, issued a slew of CDs, some quite nice but not very well noticed, and then went dormant. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, the Limited Partnership revived and reactivated itself in the late 1990s, licensing CDs to a number of other labels.

In addition to the usual discography, we also offer a reprint of The Vee-Jay Story, the 1981 Goldmine story that was used as the liner notes for the 1993 3-CD box set. Here we have made a few minor corrections that set right some of the typos in the original, and add a postscript.

For those specifically interested in the Beatles on Vee-Jay, we suggest you also visit Bruce Spizer's "Beatles Records on Vee-Jay" web page. His book on the subject is absolutely first-rate.

We would appreciate any additions or corrections to this discography. Just send them to us via e-mail. Both Sides Now Publications is an information web page. We are not a catalog, nor can we provide the records listed below. We have no association with Vee-Jay Records. Should you be interested in acquiring albums listed in this discography (which are all out of print), we suggest you see our Frequently Asked Questions page and Follow the instructions found there. This story and discography are copyright 1981, 1997, 1999, 2006, 2007 by Mike Callahan.
