Reprise

The first Reprise label was issued in in the commercial pink and grey, with black print. It had a reprise logo within a grey bar across the top. Reprise started their stereo issues (both stereo-33 singles and stereo Little LPs) in the R-40,000 series. The first 25 numbers in that series were stereo-33 singles, grouped in packages of five as "Artist of the Week" jukebox offerings. Numbers 31-40 and 50-52 were also stereo singles. Both the stereo-33 singles and the jukebox EPs had Label 1 during the 40,000 series, which lasted to 40,056 in 1963.

By mid-1963, Reprise apparently felt that the 40,000 series was a bit cumbersome, so they switched to an SR-6000 series where the four-digit number matched the catalog number of the full LP. They also decided that since the stereo-33 singles and Little LPs were selling very poorly at record shops, that henceforth they would be promotional items. The label from 1963 to 1965 was the promotional version of Label 1, above, which we call "Label 1-promo." Sometimes it said "promotional" on the label itself, and sometimes not. The Trini Lopez Little LP above (40,054) is known to have been first issued with the old number and Label 1, then re-issued with a white label and the new number, RS-6093.
