Mercury Album Discography, Part 22:This Mercury audiophile series used the PPS 2000 series for mono and the PPS 6000 series for
stereo.
The issues began with PPS 2000/6000, released in September, 1960, and went through PPS
2032/6032, released in September, 1962. The series was meant to be for the audiophile who was
interested in the purest sound, rather than specific performances.
Starting with PPS 2019/6019, the albums were recorded on 35mm movie film and had the added
designation f:35d. The f:35d albums contained much additional detailed technical information. Album
cover and label design also changed at this point, but there was no interruption in the numbers.
All albums throughout the series were issued in gatefold covers with detailed personnel and technical
information inside.
There were two sampler albums, one for each part of the series (as well as at least one sampler EP).
The numbers for these sampler albums are separate from the rest of the series, and are part of
Mercury's Galaxy series, which usually sold for 99 cents as an introduction to series being promoted.
