All of the Mercury-label mono issues in this section were first issued with the old Mercury mono label, with the label name in caps around the top edge of the label (far left). Some mono releases were done as Mercury/EmArcy Records, and these used a blue label with silver print with an oval Mercury/EmArcy Jazz logo instead of the Mercury name around the top of the label.
The regular Mercury label stereo records on this page all used the original stereo label (far left), with the oval Mercury logo and large "STEREO" lettering around the top edge of the label. Mercury/EmArcy stereo issues used a blue label with silver print (near left), with the oval Mercury/EmArcy Jazz logo and large "STEREO" lettering around the top edge.
Most of the albums on this page were issued with the large, block-letter "High Fidelity" banner (or "Stereo" banner if stereo), as shown at far left. Starting with MG-20600/SR-60600, just after this page, the mono and stereo numbers were consolidated as MG-2xxxx/SR-6xxxx, with the last four digits of the catalog number corresponding. About that time, the banner changed from block letters to an upper-and- lower case version (shown near left). A few of the albums issued before 20600 were issued with the corresponding mono/stereo numbers and the new upper-and-lower case banners on the stereo issues, which were issued later. These were 20562/60562 (Eddie Howard's Golden Hits, which had the block "High Fidelity" banner on the original mono pressing), 20587/60587 (Frankie Laine's Golden Hits), and 20593/60593 (Eddy Howard's More Golden Hits). The latter two apparently had the new banner on the original mono issues, also, so the mono issues may have come out late. |
