Imperial Album Discography, Part 1 (1950-1955)
by David Edwards and Mike Callahan
Last update: August 31, 1999

Imperial's long playing history started in 1950 with a short foray into the 12-inch album market, but mostly the issues were on 10-inch albums until 1955. For the most part, the 100, 500, and 3000 series were forgettable international-folk albums and other specialties like wedding albums. The exception was one Slim Whitman album, which is now quite a collector's item. Imperial seemed to prefer 45-rpm EPs (four songs, with a cardboard cover, using the IMP-100 series) rather than LPs for their rhythm and blues artists. The early albums used the blue label with silver print.
