Columbia 10-inch Album Discography, Part 7:
American Folk Music Series
(HL 9001 to HL 9027) 1949-1954

By Randy Watts, Mike Callahan, David Edwards, and Patrice Eyries
Last update: September 3, 2009

This was Columbia's 10" "American Folk Music" series. Most of these would be classified as Country and Western. With only 27 albums over six years, it gives a good indication of just how much Columbia was not a Country & Western powerhouse back then. Many of the country records were released on their subsidiary labels like Okeh and Harmony.

This series used the usual early Columbia label design. The label was dark red with gold print. The label name was in large capital letters bending around the top of the label edge. Bending around the bottom edge was "LONG PLAYING MICROGROOVE" with the Lp logo between the words "playing" and "microgroove."
